Polyflow has developed a proprietary pyrolysis process that converts mixed and contaminated plastic and rubber waste into transportation fuels and chemical intermediates. The United States Patent and Trademark Office has granted a patent to Ohio-based advanced energy company Polyflow covering its proprietary pyrolysis process that converts mixed and contaminated plastic and rubber waste into transportation fuels and chemical intermediates. The technology offers an alternative end-of-life solution for all types hard-to-recycle mixed and contaminated polymer and rubber waste with emphasis on plastic types 3-7, tyres and carpet. Polyflow is designing a full-scale process capable of converting up to 2.5 tons of these streams per hour into transportation fuels and aromatics. An additional process and apparatus patent has also been issued by the Commissioner of Patents in Australia. Polyflow’s CEO Jay Schabel describes both the US and Australian patent issuances as further validation of the unique characteristics associated with the Polyflow technology. He adds: ‘As the world continues to seek more efficient and sustainable methods of managing complex waste streams embedded with polymer and rubber-based items, the Polyflow process is well positioned to meet this demand. The receipt of these patents further strengthens our effort to commercialise a world-changing technology that will redefine waste as a resource.’ Implementation of the technology is expected to take place during Q2-2012. |
